Zusammenfassung
Die Simulation physiologischer Organfunktionen durch apparative Ersatzsysteme ist bisher trotz aller technischen Fortschritte und Möglichkeiten in der Medizin noch in keinem Falle vollständig gelungen. Auch die apparative Detoxikation des Blutes macht hier keine Ausnahme. Ihr theoretisches Verständnis ist noch dadurch erschwert, daß klinisch eindeutige therapeutische Erfolge möglich sind bei einem Erkrankungsbild, der Urämie, dessen Ätiologie, Pathophysiologie und Pathobiochemie auch heute noch als weitgehend ungeklärt angesehen werden müssen. Eine eindeutige Zuordnung solcherart klinisch-empirisch gewonnener Daten muß deshalb immer spekulativ bleiben, deshalb können die folgenden Ausführungen auch nur einen bewußt auf Widerspruch orientierten Thesencharakter besitzen und Einzelbeispiele als Illustration nutzen.
