Interactions Between Pairs of Cells

Abstract

In our studies we recorded in most cases from more than one cell. When a pair of cells was studied we could ask to what extent does the firing of one cell affect that of the other? This question is studied very much after the fashion of studies of responses of cells to stimuli. In the case of stimulus presentation we plot the Peri Stimulus Time Histogram (PSTH) which shows us how the firing rate of the cell depends on the presence of stimulus. In the case of simultaneous recording from two cells we plot the cross-renewal density function, which is computed exactly like the PSTH, but the spikes of one of the cells are used to reset the starting point instead of the stimulus. The results of such computation are plotted in Fig. 7.
