Mixed Crystals

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 33))

Abstract

The use of mixed substances for various purposes has been known since ancient times. Such names as “the Bronze Age”, the Age of Iron and Steel” remind us of that. Using these names emphasizes the fact that it has been known since ancient times that variations in the composition of solid solutions of elements can lead to change in their material properties.
