Steroid Profiles in Human Amniotic Fluid and Distribution of Steroids in Several Compartments

Simultaneous measurements of various steroids in amniotic fluid have been carried out to a limited extent. For C30, C29, C28, and C27 steroids, it was found that they represent about 2 % of the total sterol content in human amniotic fluid and that about 10 %–20 % consist of cholestanol and cholesterol precursors [53]. The distribution of steroids (%) in various compartments and fetal substances is summarized in Table 71.
