Generation of Megagauss Fields by Electromagnetic Flux Compression

Pulsed high magnetic fields in the megagauss range have been produced by the electromagnetic flux compression using a condenser bank of 285 kJ. A larger condenser bank with a total energy of 6.5 MJ (5 MJ for primary current and 1.5 MJ for the seed field) is being installed to generate even higher fields. Non-destructive fields in the submegagauss range have also been produced. Generated high fields were successfully used for various solid state experiments.
