Abstract

A theory to obtain axial strain and shear angle in a thin tube under torque is developed. A feature of the analysis is that it takes into consideration the motion of typical material line elements as the body deforms from an initial to a final configuration. The axial stretch and shear angle during a certain cycle of loading are both found to depend upon their values at the end of the previous cycle.
