Relaxation Times of Tunneling Systems in Glasses

The purpose of this chapter is 1) to review experiments which provide information on two-level system relaxation times in glasses, 2) to relate these relaxation times to the specific physical processes responsible for them, and 3) to use this information to expand our knowledge of two-level systems, their interactions with each other and external fields. Most of the experiments reported by early 1979 have been carried out on various types of silica glasses, but relaxation time information is becoming available on systems such as metallic glasses.
