Electronic States of an Ideal Molecular Crystal

  • Chapter
Organic Molecular Crystals

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 16))

Abstract

Excited electronic states may be classified as neutral or ionized. In the present work we shall focus our attention on the problems of formation, behavior and energetics of ionized states. But since the creation of ionized states in organic molecular crystals proceeds mainly, as will be seen later, via neutral states, we devote the next section to a brief description of excited neutral states, their energetics and behavior.

It seems that the human mind has first to construct forms independently, before we can find them in things… knowledge cannot spring from experience alone but only from the comparison of the inventions of the intellect with observed fact. Albert Einstein
