Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel bringt einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Typen von Lumineszenzdioden. Es ist unterteilt in Lumineszenzdioden für den sichtbaren Spektralbereich (LED) und für den infraroten Spektralbereich (IRED). Am Anfang des Abschnittes über LED werden die verschiedenen photometrischen Größen zu ihrer Beschreibung erklärt. Bei den LED liegt der Schwerpunkt entsprechend der technischen Bedeutung auf den GaP- und GaAs1−xPx-LED. Für den infraroten Spektralbereich hat das System Ga-Al-As ähnlich große Bedeutung wie das System Ga-As-P für den sichtbaren Bereich. (Ga, Al) As-IRED emittieren im direkten Bereich des Mischkristallsystems je nach Al-Gehalt und Dotierung Strahlung mit Wellenlängen von 650nm, d.h. vom roten Spektralbereich, bis 1000 nm. Für größere Wellenlängen müssen andere Halbleitermaterialien wie InP, InAs oder GaSb bzw. deren quasibinären Mischkristall-reihen eingesetzt werden. Bei Wellenlängen oberhalb 3µm entst eht für alle Lumineszenzdioden jedoch das grundsätzliche Problem, daß die erforderlichen Halbleitermaterialien bei Zimmertemperatur eigenleitend werden, was eine Kühlung erforderlich macht. In diesem Falle sind aber Halbleiterlaser auch aus Gründen der höheren Emissionsleistung gewöhnlichen Lumineszenzdioden vorzuziehen.
