Abstract
Reproductive behaviour in fishes, as in other animals, has received a great deal of attention from ethologists. The literature is so large, and the subject so important (not least to the fish themselves), that I have devoted three chapters to it: this one on selection and preparation of a site for spawning, Chapter 5 on courtship and the spawning act itself, and Chapter 6 on parental care of the young.
