Abstract

Proton magnetic relaxation times of water adsorbed in zeolites of faujasite type have been measured at higher pore filling factors at frequencies between 10 and 88 MHz as a function of temperature. It could be shown that restriction of thermal motion in the adsorbed state is caused by the rigid oxygen lattice of the zeolite (“stabilization effect”) and not by the exchangeable sodium ions. Moreover a distribution of correlation times could be excluded for the majority of the adsorbed water molecules in contrast to suggestions commonly found in literature.
