Peculiarities of Nuclear Spin-Lattice Relaxation in Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

Abstract

The proton spin-lattice relaxation has been investigated in some esters of cholesterol (formiate, caproate, stearate). The relaxation is found to be nonexponential in liquid and cholesteric phases and exponential in low-temperature phases (smectic and solid). Two relaxation processes contributing to the spin-lattice relaxation were recognized.
