EPR Spectroscopic Investigation of Tantalum(V) Doped AgCl

An EPR investigation of AgC1 doped with Ta(V)ions has revealed that this impurity is an electron-trapping center, (TaC16)2−, during low temperature gamma irradiation. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters of the Ta(IV) isotropic spectrum are: g = 1.9662±0.0004; A(181Ta) = (76.9±0.6)×10−4 cm−1. A discussion is given concerning the character of the Ta(IV)ground state in octahedral symmetry.
