Coexistence of Tetragonal and Orthorhombic Jahn-Teller Distortions in a 2T2g System: SrTiO3:Cr5+

Abstract

Tetragonal (t) and orthorhombic (o) sites are shown to coexist for Cr5+ in SrTiO3. Uniaxial stress and electric field effects. in then EPR spectra of o-Cr5+ are discussed in terms of a strong Jahn-Teller coupling between the 2T2g electronic state and e and t2g modes. Close to Tc the EPR spectra reflect dynamical phenomena of the crystal.
