Theoretical Aspects of Inner-Level Spectroscopy

  • Chapter
Synchrotron Radiation

Part of the book series: Topics in Current Physics ((TCPHY,volume 10))

Abstract

Theoretical study of inner-level spectroscopy has recently made remarkable progress, stimulated by new and precise information obtained from experimental observations with the use of synchrotron radiation. Inner core electrons, being initial (final) states of photoabsorption (emission), are well localized and their properties are already known, as those inherent in each atom, irrespective of the chemical surroundings. On the other hand, the states of the outer electrons as final (initial) states of photoabsorption (emission) are of more interest since they are related with the interatomic bond, whose nature is different for different materials.
