Abstract
The principle of phototelegraphy is known since the last century, beginning with works of Alexander Bain 1843, but there was no practical importance until 1925. At this time RCA started a service for the transmission of wire photos across the Atlantic ocean. About 25 years ago the transmission of wire photos for newspapers and of weather chart for meteorological stations and ships grew constantly. About 1960 facsimile equipment, today called telecopying equipment for the transmission of ISO-A4-size documents on the public switched telephone network were introduced into the offices.
