Abstract

It is unlikely that a critical review of a controversial topic of this nature can be presented without offending some, if not all, who have proposed new classifications [2, 11, 12, 15, 22, 24] of the so-called non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (a term which, by virtue of its negative implications, is already in some disrepute). Clearly, Rappaport [27, 28, 29] recognizes the need for a change in terminology in keeping with recent observations based on newly devised techniques for cellular indentification [5,12,16]. He [28] and I [13] have, nevertheless, challenged some of the recently proposed concepts and nomenclature, based on a so-called functional approach [21, 22].
