Zusammenfassung
Der Einsatz von kurzlebigen Radionukliden gewinnt in der nuklearmedizinischen Diagnostik immer mehr an Bedeutung, weil dadurch vor allem die Strahlenbelastung des Patienten herabgesetzt werden kann. Solche Isotope scheinen auf den ersten Blick nur für den Anwender zur Verfügung zu stehen, der sich in der Nähe des Produktionsortes befindet, da ein Transport über größere Entfernungen wegen der kurzen Halbwertszeit in vielen Fällen unwirtschaftlich oder gar unmöglich ist. Einen Ausweg bieten die sogenannten,,Radionuklidgeneratoren”. Es handelt sich dabei um Apparaturen, mit denen man ein kurzlebiges „Tochternuklid” von einem relativ langlebigen radioaktiven Vorläufer, dem „Mutternuklid”, wiederholt abtrennen kann. Der Hersteller füllt den Generator mit einer Muttersubstanz von so langer Halbwertszeit, daß er ihn bequem und rationell versenden kann. Die Abtrennung des kurzlebigen Tochternuklids, das durch radioaktiven Zerfall aus dem Mutternuklid entsteht, wird dann vom Anwender durchgeführt.
