Abstract
If there were no other reason to justify our interest in the immune system, and there are many, it should be sufficient to state that the immune system is essential for our survival. This is clearly shown by what happens when, in man, the immune system does not function in whole or in part, as happens in a rather heterogeneous group of diseases called immunodeficiencies.
