Abstract
In the overall context of reproductive behavior we may define as sexual, or epigamic, behavior the elements involved in bringing individuals of opposite sex together for mating, i. e., to ensure fertilization. Behavior related to rearing offspring, once born, is conveniently treated as a separate category, viz. maternal/filial behavior (Chap. 14).
