Abstract
The present study comprised 56,404 male and 65,056 female patients who were residents of Connecticut, were of known age, and had a first primary cancer diagnosed between 1935 and 1964, inclusive. These patients were admitted to a hospital in Connecticut or neighboring states or had a malignant neoplasm listed on their death certificates. All malignant neoplasms, with the exception of non-melanotic skin cancers, are coded, and the coded information is placed onto magnetic tape. The registry does not attempt to collect data on all skin cancer cases; skin cancers (other than malignant melanoma) may be treated on an outpatient basis and not be reported to the registry. Non-melanotic skin malignancies are therefore excluded from the present analysis.
