The normal arterial supply of the liver

Abstract

Several authors have studied the normal arterial anatomy of the liver by anatomic preparations, corrosion casts and by angiography. An anatomic division of the liver can be accomplished according to a) the distribution of the hepatic artery, portal vein and biliary ducts (Martens, 1920; Melnikoff, 1924; Hjortsjo, 1948; Nettelblad, 1954; Healey et al, 1953; Couinaud, 1954, 1957; Michels, 1955) and b) the hepatic venous system (Kiernan, 1833; De Burlet, 1911; RAPP, 1953).
