Abstract

The tumours reviewed in this chapter are derived from three sources — the Manchester Children’s Tumour Registry, the Manchester Ovarian Tumour Registry, and the Testicular Tumour Panel. The Ovarian Tumour Registry covers 26 years, 1947–1973, but its purpose is mainly diagnostic and the “follow-up” is not as comprehensive as that of the Children’s Tumour Registry. The tumours included from the Ovarian Registry are from girls of 16 years and less in age. The various types of tumour included in the Manchester registers are listed in Table 1, those of the Testicular Tumour Panel in Table 5. The frequency with which a particular tumour is seen is no indication of its true incidence in the population. Nevertheless, the two most common sites are the gonad and the sacrococcygeal region and in the gonad, teratomas far outnumber any other tumour at this age.
