Abstract

One of H.H. Weber’s great contributions to muscle biochemistry and physiology was his understanding of the essential role of ATP in muscle contraction, so clearly expressed in his 1954 review (Weber and Port-zehl, 1954). It is therefore a great privilege for us to contribute a paper at this meeting on aspects of the mechanism of ATP hydrolysis catalysed by myosin and actomyosin.
