Abstract
In the literature on osteogenic sarcoma, the classic paper by FRIEDMAN and CARTER (3) stands as a masterpiece of data collection and scrutiny, and its extensive bibliography lists all the important references. Among other things, these authors made recommendations about the structure of future studies devoted to osteogenic sarcoma. Thus, in reviewing the management of osteogenic sarcoma at the Mayo Clinic, we make no attempt to review the literature further. Instead, we shall relate some of our experiences, unpublished previously, with specific points emphasized by FRIEDMAN and CARTER and then give a report of a controlled study that we believe fulfills the criteria suggested by FRIEDMAN and CARTER (3), who stated that “Immunologic factors appear to play a significant role in this disease and the potential role of immunotherapy needs to be seriously considered.”
