Abstract
Although the reader may be assumed to have a reasonable background knowledge and understanding of the basic meiotic phenomena, it may be useful to recapitulate a few principles. The first Chapter deals primarily with this recapitulation, but it does so from a special angle: that of interpreting meiosis in terms of recombination. It also briefly considers the nature of the information that can be derived from such an interpretation.
