Abstract

The concept of antiandrogens is now nearly 40 years old. In the early days, it was the oestrogens which had in certain bioassays, like the chicken-comb test, antiandrogenic properties. A detailed discussion of this aspect has been provided by Yoss (17, pp. 474–476) in the first part of his textbook. Although there is no doubt that oestrogens can possess antiandrogenic activity in certain test models and at certain target organs, they are not listed among the antiandrogens any more.
