Atomic Order-Disorder Information from Magnetic Data

Abstract

The effect of local atomic environment on the formation and on the magnitude of atomic dipole moments allows the study of order-disorder phenomena by means of magnetic measurements. The analysis of magnetization vs. field and temperature data for FeAl in terms of Brillouin functions gives the concentration of Fe on Al sites and it indicates the presence of magnetic clusters. Similar analysis of magnetization data for ternary alloys of Cu-Ni with low concentrations of Fe gives Fe-Fe short range order parameter values, which decrease with the Ni content and increase with the Fe concentration.
