Radiotherapy of Hodgkin’s Disease and Malignant Lymphomas

  • Chapter
Diagnosis and Therapy of Malignant Lymphoma

Summary

The radiotherapeutic management of Hodgkin’s disease is approaching optimization with appreciation of the need to extend treatment to include major portions of the axial lymphatic chain. Unequivocal evidence now exists that “prophylactic” irradiation of occultly diseased sites can not only reduce the incidence of relapse but also materially improve survival. Further major advances in the therapy of Hodgkin’s disease will depend upon the integration of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in those presentations having a significant risk of clinically undetectable extranodal spread.
