Abstract
In this final chapter we shall try to summarize the information presented in the preceding chapters. In each of these chapters we have set out and compared the main factual results of studies carried out with the aid of electron microscopic, cytochemical, biochemical and electrophysiological methods, on the photoreceptors of vertebrates, insects and cephalopod mollusks, the taste cells of vertebrates and insects, the auditory cells of vertebrates and insects, the receptor cells of the organ of gravitation of coelenterata, ctenophora, ciliated worms, annelids, arthropods, molluscs, and vertebrates.
