Abstract
The name of this antigen is in itself a definition. It is an antigen whose occurrence is limited to normal embryonic tissue and, in adult organisms, to malignant tumors. CEA are divided into three major groups: 1) antigens expressed on the cell surface (cell membrane-associated CEA, transplantation CEA); 2) alpha globulins (alpha fetoprotein); and 3) CEA of the digestive tract.
