Abstract

Three related questions which have been discussed at this meeting fall within the fields of epidemiology and medical statistics. These questions are:

  1. 1.

Why does the “same” protocol produce different results at different centres?

  2. 2.

How should the results of clinical trials be presented (published)?

  3. 3.

What statistical methods should be used in the analysis of trial results?

It has always appeared to me that to make one’s point in discussing such questions a certain amount of exaggeration is desirable. I will follow this rule.
