Zoochromes and Evolution

  • Arthur E. Needham
Part of the Zoophysiology and Ecology book series (ZOOPHYSIOLOGY, volume 3)

Just as to ontogenesis (p. 269) there are two distinct aspects of the relation of zoochromes to phylogenesis, namely their own particular evolution and their contribution to the general evolution of animals. Of course the two aspects are closely interrelated, particularly at this ‘final’ level of Aristotelian causation and no attempt will be made to keep the two sharply separated.
