Abstract
The expression “sick hospital”, which was coined for institutions of clinical medicine in general (Max Kibler), is also applicable to clinical psychiatry. A study of the history of psychiatric institutions will make us better able to observe and evaluate deficiencies and to assess the prospects for reform.
