Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma is probably the commonest cancer in Uganda. Under diagnosis is probable in a tumour which produces symptoms late and kills rapidly. The relationship to cirrhosis, Australia antigen and aflatoxin is examined. Biliary duct cancer by contrast is not particularly common and cancer of the pancreas is probably also uncommon. Diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma on needle biopsy is relatively straight forward if the pathologist is familiar with the various patterns of tumour growth.
