Phosphorylase a as a Glucose Receptor

Abstract

The effect of glucose on the enzymatic inactivation of muscle phosphorylase a by phosphorylase phosphatase has been studied by several groups of workers with, however, discrepant results (1, 2, 3). An enhanced conversion of phosphorylase a into b in the presence of the hexose has also been demonstrated in liver preparations (4). The mechanism by which glucose may influence the phosphorylase phosphatase reaction was investigated by Holmes and Mansour (1) who did not reach a definite conclusion.
