Summary
After subtotal pancreatectomy the amount of pericapillary connective tissue in the islets of Langerhans increases constantly and leads to the isolation of small groups of endocrine cells. The basement membranes of the endothelial cells of capillaries are enlarged. The morphological changes correspond exactly to the onset of manifest diabetes.
