Summary
In 46 female adolescents aged 10 to 16 years, urinary estrogen- and total gonadotropin-excretion was measured; in some of these cases also the excretion rate of LH was examined by radioimmuno assay. — In the 10 to 12 age group all levels were very low. The 12 to 14 age group had an estrogen-, total gonadotropin and LH-excretion nearly as high as in females 1 year after menarche. Estrogen excretion reached “the 10 limit” at this time. The menarche evidently was not a special time of hormonal changes. The highest increase of all concentrations was found at the beginning of the ovulatory cycle; this event may appear any year of the postmenarche. The levels of estrogen-total gonadotropin-LH-excretion showed a parallel course.
