Summary
Excretion of FSH and LH during puberty was regularly studied in l6 boys and girls between their 11th and 15th year. All results were compared with the development of pubes, testicles and breasts and with the menarche or breaking of the voice. In both sexes there were only slight changes in the FSH and LH excretion patterns during observation time; in the male group a certain increase of the FSH/LH ratio could be observed, the female values were practically unchanged. The pubertal parameters were not clearly reflected in the gonadotrophin excretion. It was concluded that regulation of puberty is based on a long- term interaction between the maturing gonads and the hypothalamo-pituitary unit.
