Zusammenfassung
Um die Jahrhundertwende wurden erstmals Vermutungen ausgesprochen, die Placenta habe in der Schwangerschaft eine wichtige Aufgabe als endokrines Organ zu erfüllen. Erst durch die Untersuchungen der Arbeitsgruppe um DICZFALUSY (Übersicht s. Referat S. 32 sowie 1969) gelang es, auch die Rolle des Feten in dem endokrinen Geschehen während der Schwangerschaft näher zu klären. Es stellte sich heraus, daß Fetus und Placenta nur gemeinsam ein biosynthetisch vollwertiges endokrines Organ darstellen. Jeder Teil für sich ist leistungsunfähig und bedarf der vikariierenden Hilfe des Partners. Diese Funktionseinheit wurde von DICZFALUSY “fetoplacentare Einheit” genannt. In den letzten Jahren haben darüber mehrere Gruppen intensiv gearbeitet (Übersichten bei SOLOMON et al., 196?; MITCHELL, 196?; TELLER I968; REYNOLDS, I968; MACNAUGHTON, I969).
