Zusammenfassung

Noch nie hat eine Medikamentengruppe in der Pharmakotherapie des Glaukoms in so kurzer Zeit, in so breitem Umfang bei Patienten und Therapeuten Anerkennung gefunden wie die Betablocker. In einer Vielzahl klinischer und wissenschaftlicher Mitteilungen wurden die Vorzüge dieser Medikamentengruppe gegenüber den traditionellen Antiglaukomatosa hervorgehoben und die vorzügliche Wirksamkeit gerühmt. Das einfache Therapieschema mit einer nur zweimal täglichen Anwendung und das scheinbare Fehlen von lästigen Nebenwirkungen sorgte für eine rasche und gute Annahme dieses Therapiekonzeptes durch den Patienten. Erst mit einer gewissen Latenzzeit wurde man sich auch der Risiken und Nebenwirkungen der Betablocker-Therapie der Glaukome bewußt und gestand Einschränkungen der Anwendbarkeit bei bestimmten Patienten nur zögernd ein.
