Changes of Immune Globulins in Different Herpetic Diseases

  • Conference paper
Herpetische Augenerkrankungen

Summary

Changes in levels of immune globulins IgA and IgG in human tears were investigated in 22 patients suffering from herpetic dendritic keratitis, in 6 patients with herpetic disciform keratitis, in 3 patients with herpetic iridocyclitis, in 62 patients with adenovirus conjunctivitis and in 100 healthy persons. It appeared that in the case of herpetic dendritic keratitis, the level of IgA decreased and that of IgG increased in human tears. In herpetic disciform keratitis, IgA increased and IgG slightly increased. In herpetic iridocyclitis, IgA slightly increased while IgG increased considerably. Adenovirus conjunctivitis caused a high increase in both IgA and IgG levels of human tears. It is inferred that in herpetic diseases of the eye the levels of immune globulins in human tears increase only if the herpetic disease spreads over tissues with good blood supply while in diseases of the cornea, there is little change in the levels of immune globulins.
