Abstract
Monoclonal antibodies are the most common proteins produced by animal cells in culture. They have numerous applications as diagnostics, therapeutics and as basic research tools. The purification of an antibody from the cell culture supernatant or ascites is necessary for most applications. Two things will determine what is the best purification strategy. Firstly, the nature of the starting material, e.g., type and level of impurities and class of antibody; secondly, the level of purity required at the end of the separation process.
