Abstract

Myocardial blood flow can be evaluated either by myocardial perfusion scan or by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Myocardial perfusion is the nutrient supply for myocardium — a muscle that has a reserve of about three to five times the normal level after stress [128]. Coronary arteries supply blood to the myocardium, and fixed stenosis of coronary arteries can limit the flow reserve of myocardium and even limit rest perfusion. Assessment of perfusion by myocardial perfusion scan and SPECT provides information about the clinical significance of fixed stenosis of coronary arteries.
