Abstract
The Sixth Amendment to the Cosmetics Directive (Council Directive 93/35/EEC of June 14th 1993), which came into force in 1997, is an important and powerful piece of legislation. It will have an enormous impact on the safety of cosmetics, provide necessary information to the consumer and enable a better evaluation of adverse reactions to cosmetics. Ultimately, the consumer will benefit from enhanced protection and this will cause significant savings in costs to health care.
