Abstract
Examination of the interior of the bladder under a dissecting microscope will reveal thread-like worms, up to 10mm long, either free in the lumen or attached to the mucosa. Dark golden brown ova can be seen in female worms. Focal white thickenings and masses have been reported in some rats. During the acute phase of experimental infections, migrating larvae can cause focal hemorrhages in lungs, liver, and kidneys. Infected rats can have retarded growth and rough hair coats (Bone and Harr 1967; Flynn 1973; Fricsay 1956; Peardon et al. 1966; Smith 1946; Thomas 1924).
