Chronic Progressive Nephropathy, Rat

Kidneys of rats with moderate to severe chronic progressive nephropathy (CPN) are enlarged and pale with pitted or granular surfaces (Fig. 194). Small cysts can be visible in the cortex. In advanced disease, kidneys can be enlarged two to three times their normal size. There may also be irregular brown to golden pigmentation radiating from the corticomedullary junction to the surface.
