Abstract

In most of the industrialized countries of the world alcohol is the major etiological factor in the development of chronic pancreatitis. Gallstones although a frequent cause of acute pancreatitis almost never lead to chronic pancreatitis. There are other defined causes that make up a small proportion of cases (Table 13.1).
