Versuche, Krebserkrankungen in ihrem Verlauf diätetisch zu beeinflussen, reichen bis ins Mittelalter. Bereits damals war Fleisch verboten, während Süßspeisen, Reis, Ziegenmilch, Gurken und Kürbis erlaubt waren (Rivlin 1982).
