Communication routes between intracranial and intralabyrinthine fluid-filled spaces

Abstract

The cochlear and endolymphatic duct and sac are embryologically preformed routes to the CSF-filled spaces (Fig. 1). The membraneous labyrinth which is surrounded by a bony structure is much smaller than this bony capsule and filled with about 3 lmm3 of endolymph. In the wall the terminal fibres of the cochlear and the vestibulocochlear nerve branches are distributed.
